India’s Largest Integrated Solar Ingot And Wafer Manufacturing Facility: Waaree Begins Work On Rs 6,200 Crore, 10 GW Project In Nagpur
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis performed the groundbreaking ceremony for Waaree Energies' 10GW integrated solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility on Saturday (14 March) in Butibori, Nagpur.
The facility will house 10GW capacity each for solar ingots and wafers, establishing it as India's largest integrated ingot and wafer manufacturing complex.
Spread across 300 acres and being developed with an investment of approximately Rs 6,200 crore, the facility will focus on the production of high-purity solar ingots and wafers, which form the critical foundation of the solar photovoltaic value chain.
The project aims to enhance domestic self-reliance by significantly reducing India's reliance on imported materials and enhancing supply chain stability.
Once operational, the facility is expected to generate over 8,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing to regional economic development, skill creation, and industrial growth in Maharashtra.
The project represents a major step in strengthening India's upstream solar manufacturing ecosystem, which currently has limited domestic capacity.
Hitesh Doshi, chairman and managing director of Waaree Energies, emphasised that the groundbreaking marks an important step in building strong domestic manufacturing capabilities across the solar value chain.
Nagpur's strategic location, strong industrial ecosystem, and connectivity across India make it an ideal destination for a project of this scale, Doshi noted while thanking the Maharashtra government for its support.
Founded in 1990, Waaree Energies is one of India's leading renewable energy companies, operating advanced manufacturing facilities with a total solar PV module capacity of approximately 22.3GW worldwide and solar cell manufacturing capacity of up to 5.4GW.
The Butibori facility aims to quintuple India's current ingot-wafer capacity, supporting the nation's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and energy security through clean energy manufacturing.
