508 Km Meerut-Prayagraj Ganga Expressway Nears Completion As Technical Testing Underway Ahead Of Official Inauguration: Report
The 594-kilometre Ganga Expressway, one of India's longest highway projects, is inching closer to completion with 95 per cent of the construction work already finished, the News18 reported.
Once opened, the six-lane corridor will cut travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from approximately 12 hours to just seven.
The expressway begins at Bijoli in Meerut and passes through 12 districts, including Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, before ending in Prayagraj.
Beyond connecting major urban centres, the project is set to bring high-speed road access to 518 villages spread across these districts, potentially boosting agricultural trade, small businesses and local employment.
While physical construction is largely done, authorities are currently conducting a series of technical tests before the expressway can be opened to the public.
These include toll system trials, safety inspections and road quality assessments. Entry and exit points at Bijoli in Meerut have been temporarily shut to facilitate this final phase of preparations.
The expressway adds to Meerut's rapidly evolving infrastructure landscape.
The city already benefits from the fully operational Namo Bharat Corridor, which connects Modipuram and Begumpul to Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan at speeds of up to 160 kmph, along with newly launched Metro services that have eased daily commuting for thousands.
Industry watchers expect the expressway to draw fresh investment in logistics, real estate and manufacturing along the corridor. Property values in areas near the route are also anticipated to see a significant uptick once operations begin.
The government is yet to announce an official launch date, but with testing underway and construction in its final stages, the green signal could come in the near future.
The project is widely seen as a major step toward strengthening connectivity across western and central Uttar Pradesh.
