The National Highways Authority of India is set to construct a four-lane underground trumpet interchange along Dwarka Expressway in Gurgaon, providing signal-free access to two major upcoming urban developments, Global City and Vision City, The Times of India reported.

The interchange, proposed near the Pataudi Road junction on NH-248BB, will be funded entirely by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation, which has agreed to bear the estimated cost of Rs 923 crore.

A senior NHAI official confirmed that the project has been cleared and execution modalities are being worked out. "The proposal was finalised and we are working out the modality for the execution of the project. We hope to start the work within the next three months." The interchange is expected to take approximately 30 months to complete once work begins.

The official also elaborated on the design approach: "The layout has been designed to ensure that vehicles can enter or exit the developments without crossing high-speed expressway traffic, improving safety and maintaining uninterrupted movement on the main corridor."

Approximately 3.2 km of approach roads and ramps will link the underpass with the internal road networks of both Global City and Vision City.

The curved loop ramp will facilitate smooth turning movements, particularly for traffic approaching from the Manesar side.

Vehicles from Manesar and surrounding areas will be able to access both developments directly through grade-separated ramps without disrupting through traffic on the expressway.

The underpass will be built using precast reinforced cement concrete box structures, employing the box-pushing technique, which allows construction beneath a functioning expressway with minimal surface disruption.

"The interchange will be constructed nearly 30 feet below the surface," an NHAI official noted, adding that deep excavation, earth-retention systems and continuous dewatering will be required during construction.

Global City spans over 1,003 acres across sectors 36, 36B, 37 and 37B, while Vision City covers 121 acres in sector 88 on the opposite side of the expressway.
