The nationwide digital mapping of Waqf properties reached a major milestone on Saturday (6 December) with the closure of the upload phase of the UMEED Central Portal.
The six-month exercise brought more than five lakh Waqf properties from across India into a single digital system for the first time.
The portal, launched on 6 June, by Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, was developed under the UMEED Act, 1995.
"The UMEED Central Portal for management of Waqf Properties in India, launched by Union Minister of Minority Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju on 6 June 2025, officially closed for uploads on 6 December 2025 (Saturday), completing its 6-month window, as per the UMEED Act, 1995 and the clear directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India," the Minority Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
According to official data, 5,17,040 Waqf properties were initiated on the portal during the upload window.
Out of these, 2,16,905 properties were approved by designated authorities.
Another 2,13,941 properties were submitted by makers and remained under processing at the time of closure, while 10,869 properties were rejected during verification.
In its statement, the Minority Affairs Ministry said that in the final count, the momentum significantly accelerated as the deadline approached.
"Many review meetings, training workshops, and high-level interventions even at the Secretary level injected renewed pace into the process, making the upload surge in the last hours," the ministry said.
To support the digitisation drive, the ministry of Minority Affairs conducted continuous workshops with State and Union Territory Waqf Boards and Minority Departments.
A two-day Master Trainer Workshop was also organised in Delhi to strengthen technical capacity for data uploads.
Technical and administrative teams were stationed across various states, and seven zonal meetings were held nationwide to resolve coordination challenges.
A dedicated helpline was also operated from the Ministry for technical support and quick resolution of issues arising during the uploads.
Since the portal’s launch, ministry secretary Chandra Shekhar Kumar held more than 20 review meetings to track progress and ensure timely and accurate uploading of Waqf property details.
The ministry said that the conclusion of this phase marks a significant milestone in bringing transparency, efficiency, and unified digital management to Waqf properties across India under the UMEED framework.
