The Commission of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has commenced the final safety inspection of the newly extended section of the Indore Metro, a crucial step before the corridor can be opened for public use.

A six-member technical team led by CMRS commissioner Nilabhra Sengupta began the evaluation on Sunday (15 March), starting from the Super Corridor Station No. 2.

The inspection focuses particularly on the 11.5 km stretch between Super Corridor and Radisson Square, which forms part of the larger 17.5 km metro extension.

During the exercise, the team is conducting a detailed assessment of safety systems and infrastructure readiness.

Trial runs will test metro trains at speeds of up to 80 km/h between the Super Corridor and Radisson Square stations to evaluate braking performance and emergency response capabilities.

Officials said inspectors are also reviewing key operational components including viaduct tracks, signalling systems, electrical infrastructure and rolling stock.

In addition, the team is examining passenger-facing facilities such as entry and exit gates, lifts and overall station accessibility.

To ensure smooth inspection procedures, metro services along the Super Corridor route have been temporarily suspended until 18 March.

Ahead of the inspection, S Krishna Chaitanya, Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, carried out a detailed review of the corridor covering stations such as Radisson Square, Vijay Nagar, Meghdoot Garden, Bapat Square and Hira Nagar.

During the review, officials were directed to ensure that all safety measures and passenger amenities were fully prepared for evaluation.

While the core infrastructure including tracks and signalling systems is already in place, some finishing works are still underway.
