The Indian Army neutralised a Pakistani terrorist during an encounter in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Codenamed OP DIGGI 2, the operation was jointly conducted by the Chinar Corps and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, based on intelligence inputs regarding an infiltration attempt in the area.

During combing operations, alert troops spotted movement in the thicket and cornered a Pakistani terrorist, who opened "indiscriminate fire", the Chinar Corps said.

Army personnel subsequently eliminated the terrorist.

War-like stores recovered from the site included an AK rifle, pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition.

"Based on a specific intelligence input provided by JKP [J&K Police] regarding an infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched on intervening night of 14-15 Mar 26 in Gen area Buchhar, Uri sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious movement of a terrorist in the thicket. The ambush was readjusted and the terrorist was challenged resulting in terrorist opening indiscriminate fire. In the Contact a Pak terrorist was eliminated. Warlike stores including an AK rifle, pistols and large quantity of ammunition have been recovered," the Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

Army added that the operation was still underway.

The Uri encounter is the latest in a series of anti-infiltration operations along the Line of Control in recent weeks.

On 10 March, the White Knight Corps foiled an infiltration attempt in the Nowshera sector, eliminating one Pakistan-sponsored terrorist.

A day later, on 11 March, the White Knight Corps recovered 4 kg of explosives in Poonch, which were destroyed on the spot. It remained unclear whether the find was linked to the Nowshera infiltration bid.

Earlier, on 1 March, the Indian Army detected and repelled multiple quadcopters along the LoC that had briefly crossed into Indian airspace, foiling a drone intrusion attempt through counter-drone operations.
