Engineering and technology company ABB has announced plans to invest approximately $75 million in India during 2026 to expand its manufacturing footprint and strengthen research and development capabilities in the country.
The fresh investment builds on more than $35 million already spent in 2025 and reflects the company’s ongoing strategy to deepen local production under its “local-for-local” approach.
ABB said that nearly 85 per cent of the products and solutions it sells in India are already manufactured domestically, highlighting the country’s growing importance as a manufacturing hub.
The new capital will support expansion across ABB’s Electrification, Motion and Automation divisions and is expected to generate over 300 skilled jobs in engineering, operations and research.
“This investment in India is an important part of our strategy to support infrastructure build-out and growth in one of our fastest growing markets,” said ABB Chief Executive Officer Morten Wierod.
“We are seeing strong demand driven by the country’s energy transition, grid modernization, data center development, and the rapid expansion of the metro and high-speed rail segments. Our expanded facilities will ensure we meet this demand while enhancing our capabilities to serve other markets in the region.”
The investment will be distributed across several key locations. In Bengaluru, ABB is expanding operations at its Nelamangala campuses with a $14 million investment aimed at strengthening production of electrical protection systems and converter technologies used in sustainable mobility and rail transportation.
A further $21 million will be directed towards the company’s Peenya facility, where manufacturing capacity for specialised motors and low-voltage drives will be increased, alongside the creation of new digital innovation and remote monitoring capabilities.
In Hyderabad, ABB is developing advanced laboratories and engineering offices, while in Nashik it plans to expand circuit breaker production and vacuum interrupter manufacturing with a $22 million investment.
The company will also strengthen its generator and induction motor manufacturing capabilities in Vadodara.
ABB has operated in India for 76 years and currently employs more than 10,000 people across multiple facilities. With revenue exceeding $1.5 billion in 2025, India now accounts for around four per cent of ABB’s global business.
