Andhra Pradesh has embarked on an ambitious power infrastructure expansion with more than 200 substations being constructed across the state's three distribution companies to meet growing electricity demand.

The initiative aims to address the six to eight per cent annual increase in power consumption whilst ensuring a reliable electricity supply to both urban and rural areas.

Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar announced that comprehensive measures are being implemented across power generation, transmission and distribution sectors to cater to future requirements.

As part of the long-term strategy, substations will be established in every assembly constituency to cope with the escalating energy needs of households, agriculture and industries.

The state has initiated construction of a 400 KV Gessolin (GIS) electricity substation using advanced equipment for Rs 6,000 crore.

The energy department is implementing feeder bifurcation under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to ensure uninterrupted nine hours of free power supply to the agriculture sector.

The state government currently spends Rs 10,000 crore annually to provide 24-hour electricity to households and nine-hour free power to farmers, whilst working towards achieving over 95 per cent public satisfaction in power delivery.
