Anthropic’s artificial intelligence model Claude experienced widespread disruptions on Monday, with users across Asia, Europe and Africa reporting “elevated errors” affecting multiple services including the main Claude website, mobile app and developer console.

The company confirmed issues on its status page, saying that while “Claude is back up and running across claude.ai and our apps,” teams were working to keep pace with the “incredible demand” the platform has seen.

Complaints poured in early in the day as users encountered error messages and service interruptions that hindered access to the chatbot and related tools.

According to outage tracking sites and reports, many users saw error indicators such as HTTP 500 and HTTP 529 messages signalling internal server problems or overload conditions.

The disruption also affected Claude Code and certain login functionality, though Anthropic noted that the core API for developers was functioning normally.

The outage coincides with a period of heightened attention on Claude, which has climbed to the top of the Apple App Store’s free apps chart amid a public dispute with the United States government.

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump directed federal agencies to cease using Anthropic’s AI technology, and the company’s stance on ethical limits for defence-related uses has drawn both criticism and support.

While the service disruption has been resolved, reports indicate this was not the only recent outage, with some users noting multiple interruptions over the past 24 hours.

Anthropic’s official message after restoring services thanked users for their patience and highlighted the challenge of meeting demand as interest in Claude continues to grow.
