A proposed Rs 400 crore flyover project intended to connect the three key railway stations in Katni has made little progress and remains caught in administrative procedures despite the proposal being prepared nearly two months ago, the Dainik Bhaskar reported.

The project aims to link Katni Junction, Katni South and Mudwara stations through a continuous corridor to improve mobility across the city.

Officials say the planned infrastructure is expected to ease movement for passengers and residents who currently face long traffic delays while travelling between the stations.

The state bridge corporation carried out a detailed survey in the Gayatri Nagar and Mangalnagar underpass areas. Based on the assessment, three separate proposals were prepared and forwarded to the headquarters for approval of the geometric design, which is required before the project can proceed further.

Traffic congestion is particularly severe near the Gayatri Nagar and Mangalnagar underpasses, where heavy vehicular pressure slows movement during peak hours. The situation becomes more difficult during the monsoon when water accumulates in the underpasses, disrupting traffic and effectively dividing the city into two sections. This also affects the movement of ambulances, school buses and other essential services.

Experts note that approval of the geometric design is a mandatory technical step for large construction projects. After this clearance is granted, officials can begin preparing the Detailed Project Report, which will be followed by budget allocation and the tender process.

Setu Nigam Sub Divisional Officer Pramod Gotiya said, "The flyover proposal to connect the three railway stations is a priority. The geometric design has been sent for approval. Once approval is received, the DPR will be prepared and construction work will move forward."

Residents say delays in administrative processes have raised concerns about whether the project will progress in time to address recurring traffic and waterlogging issues.
