Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presented the Maharashtra Budget 2026 on Friday (6 March), announcing a series of large-scale infrastructure projects for Mumbai and the broader state, while asserting that Maharashtra remains the country's financial engine and is on course to become a five trillion dollar economy by 2047.

Among the headline announcements was the development of Mumbai Metro Line 11, a fully underground corridor stretching from Wadala to Gateway of India, at a projected cost of Rs 23,487 crore.

The line may further be extended to Bandra Terminus through the Dharavi redevelopment project. Metro Line 8, which will connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports, has been allocated Rs 22,862 crore.

The budget also confirmed that the Bandra-Versova Sea Link will be completed by May 2028.

The structure will rest on 3,000 pillars placed 60 metres apart and rise 12 metres above sea level, establishing a critical link between South Mumbai and the northern suburbs.

A signal-free Sewri-Worli Connector is targeted for completion by September 2026.

Additionally, 130 acres in Wadala will be developed into a dedicated startup and innovation hub.

Other notable announcements include the development of a fourth Mumbai port at Vadhavan, to be supported by warehousing and logistics infrastructure, and the construction of an Atal Setu connecting Mumbai Airport.

The government also unveiled plans to develop Uran as a third Mumbai, with Raigad, Pen and Navi Mumbai Airport earmarked as greenfield projects within that framework.

Work on stations along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor is expected to conclude within a year, with Virar, Boisar and Thane stations targeted for completion by 2027.

The budget also referenced new subways and progress on the Goregaon-Mulund link road project.
