The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority will develop a multi-modal transport corridor at Pachgaon Chowk on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, officials confirmed on Friday (6 February), as authorities move to prepare the intersection for a significant surge in passenger and vehicular movement over the coming years.
The corridor is envisioned as an integrated hub bringing together three major transit systems, including NCRTC's Regional Rapid Transport System, the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation's proposed Pachgaon metro rail, and the Haryana Orbital Rail running along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway.
Directions to initiate planning were issued by V Umashankar, Union Secretary at the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, during a Thursday evening meeting in Delhi attended by GMDA senior officials, the National Highways Authority of India, and other agencies.
Umashankar noted that the convergence of multiple transit lines at the chowk would substantially increase footfall and traffic in the years ahead, underlining the urgency of building adequate infrastructure for smooth movement.
"GMDA has been asked to plan a multi-modal corridor at this location and ensure adequate infrastructure is created to avoid heavy congestion," said a GMDA official.
GMDA has been designated as the executing agency given its relative ease in acquiring land from bodies such as the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation.
A consultant will be hired to prepare a detailed construction plan for the corridor.
The meeting had originally been convened to discuss relocating the Kherki Daula toll plaza to Pachgaon, but local demands for a flyover at the site have complicated the proposal, leaving limited room for toll operations. "No final decision could be taken on this regard," said a senior GMDA official.
The RRTS corridor linking Delhi, Gurugram, and Behror in Rajasthan will anchor a major station at Pachgaon, while the HMRTC is close to finalising its DPR for a metro line from Sector 56 in Gurugram to the chowk.
