Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off several new railway services and infrastructure projects on 11 March.

The event, scheduled in Tiruchirappalli, will see the launch of two Amrit Bharat Express trains, two express trains and multiple passenger services designed to improve mobility across Tamil Nadu, Kerala and neighbouring states.

Among the flagship services is the Podanur–Dhanbad Amrit Bharat Express, which will run weekly between Podanur Junction in Coimbatore and Dhanbad.

The train establishes a direct rail link between Tamil Nadu’s manufacturing belt and Jharkhand’s coal and mineral region, connecting major industrial centres along the way.

The route passes through key railway hubs including Salem, Renigunta, Vijayawada, Jharsuguda, Ranchi and Bokaro Steel City.

For thousands of migrant workers employed in textile and manufacturing hubs such as Coimbatore and Tiruppur, the direct service is expected to make long-distance travel home far easier and more affordable.

The Amrit Bharat trains are designed as non-air-conditioned services with improved ride quality and modern interiors, aimed particularly at long-distance travellers who rely on economical rail travel. The train also includes dedicated coaches for Divyangjan passengers.

Another major service being introduced is the Nagercoil–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, connecting the southern coastal region of Kanyakumari with the economic centres of Telangana, including the outskirts of Hyderabad.

In addition to these long-distance trains, new express routes such as the Rameswaram–Mangaluru and Tirunelveli–Mangaluru services will provide improved connectivity along the western coastal corridor.

The programme will also include the inauguration of three redeveloped railway stations in Kerala—Shoranur, Kuttippuram and Changanassery—under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Additionally, the electrification of the 65 km Shoranur–Nilambur railway line will be dedicated to the nation.
