The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has invited bids for constructing an elevated corridor along the Southern Peripheral Road, spanning from NH-48 to Vatika Chowk, the Hindustan Times reported.
The infrastructure project carries an estimated price tag of Rs 755 crore and is designed to unclog one of the city's busiest arterial stretches.
The planned structure will run 4.2 kilometres and feature 4+4 lanes, making it a fully signal-free passage for commuters.
Supporting infrastructure will include 3+3 lane primary service roads and 2+2 secondary service lanes.
Entry and exit at critical points along the route will be managed through dedicated two-lane ramps at major junctions.
Two interchanges form a key part of the design. One will come up at NH-48 to allow smooth integration with the national highway grid, while the second at Vatika Chowk will improve linkages between SPR and the Gurugram-Sohna elevated corridor.
GMDA CEO P.C. Meena outlined the rationale behind the project: "Gurugram is witnessing rapid urban expansion. A high-capacity road infrastructure remains a priority to support the city's growing mobility needs and sustain its economic growth. The infrastructure upgrade will benefit residents and commuters from various sectors, including newly developing residential and commercial clusters."
At present, travellers heading from Dwarka Expressway or southern parts of Gurugram toward Sohna or Faridabad are forced to navigate internal city roads through Rajiv Chowk or Subhash Chowk.
The new corridor will offer a direct alternative, cutting travel time and reducing the load on these congested intersections.
Once operational, the corridor is expected to stitch together Dwarka Expressway, NH-48 and the Gurugram-Sohna Elevated Corridor into a more cohesive network.
The project is targeted for completion within 30 months of the contract being awarded.
