Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have begun evaluating plans for a major elevated road along the Yamuna embankment in Noida, a project designed to reduce congestion on the busy Noida–Greater Noida Expressway as traffic volumes are expected to surge with the opening of the new airport in Jewar.

Teams from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority and the state irrigation department conducted an on-site inspection of the Yamuna Pushta road on Tuesday (10 March) to examine the proposed alignment and technical feasibility of the corridor.

TOI has reported that the plan involves constructing a 31.2 km six-lane elevated road stretching from the Okhla Barrage near Sector 94 in Noida to the Yamuna Expressway near Gharbara village, opposite Gautam Buddha University.

The proposed route will run along the Yamuna embankment, providing a parallel alternative to the existing expressway and connecting several central Noida sectors before merging with the Yamuna Expressway after crossing the Hindon River.

The elevated corridor is expected to pass through sectors 95, 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134 and 135, areas that host a mix of residential complexes, corporate offices and educational institutions.

Three entry-exit loops are also being planned to improve accessibility to surrounding neighbourhoods.

A consultancy firm, Almondz Global Infra, has been tasked with conducting a detailed feasibility study covering technical design, environmental factors and route planning.

Once the report is submitted, authorities plan to prepare a detailed project report within three months.

Construction of the corridor is expected to take around two years, with costs shared among the Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna development authorities.

Officials also plan to repair damaged sections of the existing embankment road and address missing links along nearby sector roads to improve traffic movement in the interim.
